Chiatura is an industrial city located 2 hours away from Tbilisi. People have lived in this area, on the banks of the Kvirila river since the ancient times. Today it’s known as the biggest mining town in Georgia.

People mostly rely on the mines as the job provider and the population is people mostly over 30.

Chiatura is also known for its caves: most of them were carved out during the invasions of Marvan II ibn Muhamad in the 8th century. People used them as shelter during the war times. The caves are now only accessible via mountain climbing.
