Day Tour to Gori & Uplistsikhe - Itinerary

Our driver and guide will meet you at your hotel and lead you to your car to begin the Gori & Uplistsikhe Tour from Gudauri.

11:30Ananuri Fortress

Ananuri Fortress is a 17th Century Architectural Ensemble which at the time was one of the strongest fortresses in Georgia. Fortress is located in a 70 km drive from Tbilisi, in the village with the same name – Ananuri.

Location for the complex was chosen because of its strategical importance. This fortress belonged to the local rulers called “Aragvistavi” and was the main stronghold for the family.

13:50Stalin Museum

Here’s a very awkward piece of History – Stalin Museum. Stalin or Ioseb Jugashvili to be more accurate, was born in a small town of Gori, Georgia.

He was born in a small district, in a family of a shoe-maker. In 1937 this district Soviets completely erased this district except of the tiny house were Stalin was born. A protective monument was built to protect his house. Next to it they built a huge museum.

The Stalin Museum is still functioning here today in the same exact form. With the only difference being the pitch of the museum guides. Now they can actually tell the real stories of Stalin and what it was like back in the USSR – pun very much intended 🙂

15:00Lunch in a local family

After all the history, it’s time to have a short break and enjoy the delicacies of Georgian Cuisine. We’ll stop at a family to enjoy an authentic lunch cooked for us.

16:00Cave city of Uplistsikhe

The cave city of Uplistsikhe was founded between 6th and 4th Centuries BC by pagan tribes. It’s located in 90 KM from Tbilisi, on the left bank of Mtkvari River.

Today, it has become a big attraction for travelers. Uplistsikhe is a full scale city carved into rock. Here you’ll find temples, churches, wineries, a pharmacy and even a theater! It’s a must see location for history, nature and photo lovers!

We’ll explore the complex for about 1 hour to get a full understanding of what the life was like here 2000 years ago!

20:00Back to Gudauri

At around 20:00 we’ll return to Tbilisi and our team will deliver you to your hotel.
